IV THERAPY

IV Vitamin C (IVC)

A foundational treatment provided at the Riordan Clinic is the use of high-dose Intravenous Vitamin C (IVC) to treat a wide variety of conditions and promote wellness. Our approach provides help and hope to individuals struggling with a long-term illness, while focusing on getting and staying healthy, rather than only addressing symptoms. There are many conditions that may benefit from IVC therapy. Arthritis, Lyme disease, bacterial infections, viral infections, pain after injury, and more.

There is a great deal of medical research to support the use of IV Vitamin C therapy. It is one of the best antiviral agents available, with the ability to neutralize and eliminate a wide range of toxins. Vitamin C will enhance host resistance, greatly augmenting the immune system’s ability to neutralize bacterial and fungal infections. The National Institutes of Health has published evidence confirming Vitamin C’s anti-cancer properties.

We have found that when cancer patients receive IV Vitamin C they report a reduction in their pain level and they are better able to tolerate chemotherapy.

IV Vitamin C Therapy Benefits

  • Lessens pain after injuries
  • Helps the body heal faster
  • Improves energy levels/fatigue
  • Resiliency to infections like colds/flu or other viral/bacterial infections
  • In cancer patients, IVC is known to improve the response to cancer therapies because it alleviates the effects of traditional therapies, improves appetite and helps patients remain more active

With rising concerns regarding the purity and sources of the foods in our diets, it is also important to be aware of the nutrients sourced for your daily vitamins, IVs, and injections. Our staff is constantly working with vendors to make sure that we offer only the highest quality services and nutrients for our co-learners.

Myers’ Cocktail

An intravenous vitamin infusion which enhances immune system, reduces fatigue, helps with seasonal allergies, reduces symptoms of fibromyalgia and asthma.

The Myers’ Cocktail is named for the late John Myers, M.D., a Maryland physician who used intravenous injections of nutrients to treat many chronic conditions. Currently, the nutrient cocktail has been popularized by Alan Gaby, M.D., a physician who often writes about nutrition in medicine. He has treated thousands of patients with the Myers’ Cocktail over many years. Conditions which he found to be responded well by this treatment include acute asthma attacks, migraines, fatigue, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, acute muscle spasm, upper respiratory tract infections, chronic sinusitis, seasonal allergies and cardiovascular disease. He also observed improvements in athletic performance.

The Myers’ Cocktail works by increasing the blood concentration of several essential vitamins and minerals beyond that which can be achieved when supplementing orally. For example, Vitamin C given intravenously has been found to reach blood concentrations more than 50 times greater than what can be achieved when given orally.

This temporary boost frequently “kick-starts” the cells, so that energy is produced more efficiently in them.

Some patients feel an energy boost lasting days or weeks. In the case of fibromyalgia, decreased pain can be observed. In other chronic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis, because the “leaky” nature of the gut, the infusion helps get necessary nutrients into the cells. Chronic asthma and other lung disease, congestive heart failure, and chronic allergic problems may respond with more energy and less symptoms. Patients who get sick often with infections may find an improved immune response, with less susceptibility to viral illnesses.

Plaquex

Plaquex is a compounded medicine that contains polyunsaturated phosphatidylcholine (PC). PC makes up all the cell membranes in the body as well as the transport vehicles for cholesterol, such as HDL and LDL. Cell membranes consist of a double layer of PC molecules.

Embedded in between these molecules are receptors for signaling proteins such as hormones, neurotransmitters and many more. Cholesterol molecules are also embedded in this layer to give the cell its stability.

As we age, the PC in the cell membranes becomes damaged by toxins, detergents, free radicals, heavy metals, smoking, hypertension, high blood sugar as well as high levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenalin.

With aging, the body is no longer able to produce enough PC to repair this damage. Consequences of this damage are cardiovascular disease with plaque deposits in the blood vessels, liver damage, kidney damage, and brain damage.

Besides making up all the cell membranes, PC also has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. Lowering chronic inflammation allows the body’s natural healing and repair processes to take place and is the first step in recovering from many chronic health conditions.

Effects of Plaquex

Plaquex therapy restores cell membrane integrity and cell membrane function which normalizes the cell metabolism. This in turn helps to clear out plaque deposits and improve the function of all organs, including liver and kidneys. It also improves the blood flow properties so blood can flow more easily without the use of blood thinners. It also has an effect on important enzymes involved with blood lipids. It thereby reduces LDL cholesterol and triglycerides and increases HDL cholesterol.

Theraputic Uses

Plaquex has been studied in many countries since the 1950s. Plaquex is used to treat atherosclerosis. It is given to patients suffering from angina pectoris whose coronary arteries contain plaque deposits, but also in patients with carotid artery plaque and peripheral plaque in the legs causing claudication pain when walking.

Because of its effect on the liver and the kidneys, it is also used to improve the function of both these organs. It can also improves skin texture and helps with a more youthful appearance.

What Does the Treatment Involve?

Before the first Plaquex treatment is given, blood samples are taken for determination of important serum parameters of organ function, which will be monitored during the course of the Plaquex treatment.

A check-up is usually done by the treating physician, who will discuss your present use of medications such as Beta-Blockers, Nitroglycerin and also supplements, diet and exercise with you.

How is Plaquex Administered?

It is administered intravenously over a period of 90 minutes. A minimum of 20-40 Plaquex infusions is suggested. In severe cases of heart disease (By- pass and Angioplasty candidates) up to 45 or more treatments with Plaquex may be required.

Plaquex can be alternated with classical Chelation treatments.

The Importance of Maintenance Therapy

Following completion of the treatment, it is highly recommended that you see your provider regularly. As Plaquex does not treat the underlying cause of plaque deposits, it is recommended to undergo a maintenance program of 10 –12 treatments every year as a prophylactic measure. Should symptoms start returning you may require another small series.

Methylene Blue IV Therapy

What is Methylene Blue?

Methylene blue is an inexpensive blue dye that was developed by scientists in the 1800s for the textile industry but was found to have profound medical benefits. It is still used today in hospital settings for certain medical procedures, in laboratories to stain tissues for microscopy, and as the only cure for carbon monoxide and cyanide poisonings.

Over 90% of diseases that exist today are caused by dysfunction in our cell’s mitochondria. When our cells are unable to use oxygen to produce energy, methylene blue can act like the missing enzyme to quickly restore normal mitochondrial respiration, oxygen consumption, and energy production. Methylene blue is a potent antimicrobial capable of killing fungal, viral, and bacterial infections. It is a powerful preventive medication and treatment for malaria. It is a potent antidote for chemical poisonings and overdoses. Methylene blue has neuroprotective properties to aid stroke and traumatic brain injury patients and is an effective anti-anxiety and anti-depressive medication.

How Does Methylene Blue Work?

Any stress on the body can result in inflammation which signals the production of cytokines and other inflammatory mediators. This inflammatory response reduces energy production in the mitochondria. The fastest replicating cells in our bodies are the immune cells and the neurological cells. When mitochondrial energy production goes down, our immune and neurological systems are often first to show signs of dysfunction (chronic infections, autoimmune issues, dementia and Parkinson’s symptoms).

Methylene blue selectively targets the cells most in need of healing first. So the sicker a person is, the more profound methylene blue effects can be. Methylene blue quickly concentrates in the brain and can be used to reverse metabolic dysfunction in the brain and neurological system that lead to symptoms of dementia and Parkinson’s disease.

Benefits of Methylene Blue IV Therapy

Cognitive Enhancement

Methylene blue has been studied for its potential cognitive benefits. In integrative medicine, it is often used to enhance memory and cognitive function. It is believed to work by improving mitochondrial function and enhancing blood flow to the brain. Some individuals use methylene blue as a nootropic to boost mental clarity and focus.

Antioxidant Properties

Methylene blue is known for its antioxidant properties, which help combat oxidative stress in the body. It acts as a scavenger of harmful free radicals, protecting cells from damage. This makes it a valuable addition to integrative medicine protocols aimed at reducing inflammation and preventing chronic diseases.

Antimicrobial Agent

Methylene blue has shown promise as an antimicrobial agent. It can be used topically to treat certain skin infections or incorporated into wound care protocols. Additionally, it has been explored as a potential treatment for multidrug-resistant bacterial infections.

Mood Stabilization

Some integrative medicine practitioners use methylene blue as an adjunct therapy for mood disorders. There is evidence to suggest that it may have a stabilizing effect on mood, making it an effective option for individuals with conditions like depression and bipolar disorder.

Antiviral Potential

Recent research has also highlighted the antiviral properties of methylene blue, particularly its ability to inhibit the replication of certain viruses. This aspect of methylene blue’s potential is currently being explored in the context of integrative medicine, especially with the ongoing need for antiviral therapies.

Vasodilation and Oxygenation

Methylene blue is known to improve blood flow by dilating blood vessels, and it can be used to treat conditions like hypotension. Additionally, it enhances the oxygen-carrying capacity of blood, which can be beneficial for patients with oxygenation issues.

Functional Medicine Applications

Methylene Blue when used in conjunction with red/infrared light therapy has potent antimicrobial effects on drug resistant bugs such as Lyme and serious viruses such as COVID, HIV, Zika, and Ebola, as well as more common viruses such as Epstein Barr, CMV, and Herpes Simplex Virus.

It quickly crosses the blood-brain barrier and is very effective at enhancing brain function and cognition including memory, attention and emotional regulation. When combining Methylene Blue with red light therapy it accelerates recovery of metabolically defective brain cells and is thereby an effective treatment option for Dementia and Autism.

One of Methylene Blue’s most unique and fascinating brain benefits is its ability to release negative feelings associated with past situations allowing one to “move on” from fears or trauma thereby eliminating symptoms of depression and PTSD.

Methylene Blue can relieve pain associated with nerve inflammation/chronic shooting pain, postoperative pain, oral mucositis, arthritis, migraines, and chronic low back pain.

Methylene Blue also positively affects the underlying causes of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Methylene Blue in combination with red light therapy enhances mitochondrial respiration, which protects and restores respiration in cells, organs, and body systems.

And perhaps most importantly, Methylene Blue targets and restores dysfunctional energy metabolism in cancer cells.

Pharmaceutical grade Methylene Blue is safe for human use orally and intravenously. It is used sublingually or intravenously prior to our UVBI/polychromatic therapy and photodynamic therapy (PDT).  It can also be taken orally at home between these intravenous therapies.

Methylene blue is a fascinating addition to the toolkit of our integrative medicine practitioners. Its versatility and wide range of applications make it a valuable asset in holistic patient care.

However, like any therapy, it should be used judiciously, and the guidance of a functional medicine practitioner should always be sought.

As research continues, the potential uses of methylene blue in integrative medicine are likely to expand, further establishing its place as a hidden gem in the world of alternative therapies.
